Pick n Pay has launched a ‘nude’ fruit and vegetable produce wall – a dedicated plastic and packaging-free zone in 13 stores across the country as part of a trial to measure customers’ readiness to switch from pre-packaged food to loose products.
The surge in Pick n Pay’s share price and sales suggests that the retailer is returning to its former glory days. Brasher, the Brit who was appointed in 2013 as Pick n Pay CEO, has led the retailer’s spectacular recovery. However, the market wonders if Brasher will remain in the hot seat for another few years to see through the full recovery.
Pick n Pay has introduced dedicated shop space to promote local South African products, produced by small businesses, to customers. The ‘Meet the Maker’ showcase will be trialed in eight stores across the country over a three-month period.
As part of its financial results for the six months ending 26 August 2018, Pick n Pay announced that it remains committed to cutting down on food wastage.
