Winning confectionery NPD at ISM 2018

The annual International Sweets and Biscuit Fair (ISM) has been on the go in Cologne this week. It is the largest and most important global expo for confectionery and snacks – and here are details of 2018’s top three innovations…

Show visitors voted for the most innovative confectionery and snacks launches from more than 130 products presented at the New Product Showcase at ISM, held between January 28-30.

The show featured around 1,660 exhibitors from 73 countries.

1. Fruit Balls – made in the Tropicks

Swiss company HPW bagged the top prize for creating value at origin in Ghana with fruit snacks produced in the country.

The firm’s 100% dried fruit range contains no added sugar or fruit concentrate.

The range – in mango, mango-pineapple lime, pineapple-banana-lime, pineapple-passionfruit and mango-passionfruit – is certified vegan and gluten-free.

HPW sources fresh fruit from Ghana and processes and packages its fruit snacks at a facility nearby the plantations, which it says means its fruit is ripe and fresh.

2. Got7 Brasiliero

German startup, Got7 Nutrition, took second for Brasiliero, protein-fortified wafers filled with cocoa cream.

The gluten-free snack brand contains 20% protein from whey protein isolate and hazelnuts.

The product has no sugar added and is sweetened with maltitol and sucralose.

3. Lovechock – Little Love

Dutch firm, Lovechock, was awarded third place for its organic, raw and vegan chocolate bar range ‘Little Love’.

The small 25g bars come in three flavours – Dark Baobab with 85% cacao, Dark Cherry & Almond  with 85% cacao and Creamy Lucuma (milk chocolate-like product).

The company uses biodegradable packaging and processes its cocoa, sourced from Ecuador, at low-temperatures. Its products are sweetened with coconut blossom sugar.
