06 Sep RIP Pieter van Twisk: SA food science hero
One of South Africa’s long and leading lights in food science and the food industry, Dr Pieter van Twisk, has passed away following complications from surgery, the SA Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST) has announced.
Writes SAAFoST executive director, Owen Frisby:
“It is with great sadness and regret that I have to inform you of the passing, on 23 August, of possibly the father of food science and technology in South Africa,Pieter was an Honorary Life Member and President (1981-1985) and served on the SAAFoST Council for twenty years.
“He joined the Association and became Northern Branch Secretary in 1964 and never stopped supporting, promoting and representing the Association throughout his long and productive working life.
“SAAFoST offers its sincerest condolences to sons Pieter-Louis and Martin and their families at this very sad and difficult time but can assure them that their father’s contributions to food science, technology and nutrition in South Africa will long be remembered, appreciated and applied.”
A funeral service was held for, “PvT”, as he was affectionately known, on Friday 26 August at the NG Kerk, Lynnwood Ridge, Pretoria.
