King Pie enters retail market
King Pie has announced that it will be introducing one of South Africa’s leading pie brands to the retail market with the launch of a select range of its premium, oven-ready savoury pies and sausage rolls, as well as its renowned puff pastry.
King Pie was established in 1993 and today is the leading pie franchise in the quick service restaurant industry with 290 franchise outlets nationwide and an increasing African footprint in countries such as Swaziland, Mozambique and Zambia.
Years of experience in R&D, it says, has enabled BMO Foods, the manufacturing arm of King Pie, to understand the consumer market and the demand for quality convenience goods in-store, and this has led to the decision to offer consumers a range of retail pies.
Each pie, it adds, is made with the “freshest and finest quality ingredients and contains 100% pure beef or chicken filling with real vegetables, blended in rich gravy that adds flavour and ensures an authentic taste. The generous portions are folded into over 80 layers of trans fat-free flaky puff pastry with no rising agents. There is no added MSG, preservatives or meat substitutes in any of the King Pie products. King Pie pies are pre-glazed and can be placed in an ambient oven for convenience.”
The range includes chicken pies, pepper steak pies, steak & kidney pies, beef sausage rolls, cocktail sausage rolls and the variety cocktail rolls (a combination of six beef, four chicken and four cheese and onion variants.) The new 400g puff pastry roll is ideal for enthusiastic home bakers and will retail for R9,99.
The pies and sausage rolls are available in packs of four, while the cocktail rolls come in packages with 14 different units, at leading retailers.
King Pie’s HACCP-certified manufacturing facility is based in Midrand and produces over 180 000 pies a day, made to “the highest standards including 35 quality control check points and the products are verified by an independent laboratory to ensure the absence of pathogens and validate that only authentic meat contents are used.” Testing and tasting is conducted daily by a sensory panel.
Comments King Pie CEO Andre Els, “Due to consumer demand, we are bringing a South African firm favourite into many households to share with the entire family and we anticipate that we will make major inroads in this popular frozen food category.”
