ISM 2015: Sweets and snacking innovation
ISM is a leading confectionery/snacking expo hosted anually at KoelMesse, Cologne, in January, and the largest and most important international platform in the industry. Here’s a review of some of the top innovations from the show this year….
In 2015, the ISM brought together more than 1,513 suppliers from 65 countries, with over 37,000 trade visitors from 141 countries.
Several hundred ISM visitors took the opportunity to vote for the top innovations from the expo’s ‘New Product Showcase of ISM’.
First place: Awarded to “SoundyCandy”, a patented innovation from Turkish company, Toller, that unites the characteristics of a sweet with the acoustic effect of crackling granules. The sweet develops its crackling effect in the mouth that is further reinforced by a warm or cold drink.
Second place: This went to a Belgian manufacturer of filled chocolates, Fairy, for its creation “Cho’Clair” – a softly melting chocolate in the long shape of an éclair, which is attractively decorated and wrapped.
Third place: Was won by a snack product, “Secrets Dried Beetroots” by a Swiss family-owned company, Zweifel Pomy-Chips. Its latest innovation blends Swiss potato chips and crispy vegetables. Thanks to a unique drying process, the vegetables retain their characteristic aroma, full taste and colour. “Secrets Dried Beetroots” combines potato chips with thin slices of beetroot.
