IFF expands South Africa presence

International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) has expanded its flavours facility in Isando, South Africa. IFF commands 16% of the global F&F market and is the third largest player after Givaudan and Firmenich.

The expanded facility, located near Johannesburg and adjacent to IFF’s existing manufacturing plant, more than doubles IFF’s creative capabilities in South Africa. The new cutting-edge facility includes flavour creation, application and sensory laboratories, and a pilot plant that will cater to the company’s expanded customer base in the rapidly growing sub-Saharan Africa region. IFF’s total factory footprint in South Africa is approximately 30,000 square meters.

“IFF is proud to continue its more than 90 year history in South Africa,” said Matthias Haeni, Group President, Flavors. “Our expanded site will bring an even greater level of resources to this fast-growing and dynamic market. The increased level of consumer insights, creative excellence, and technical expertise supports our customers’ pursuit of authentic taste experiences that satisfy local palates.”

IFF said that it continuously reviews its footprint to ensure it is investing appropriately to best meet customers’ needs.

Over the past six months, the company announced the opening of flavours facilities in Chicago, US; Jakarta, Indonesia; and Santiago, Chile. IFF has also made several large investments to support key markets over the last few years in Singapore, Turkey, China, India, and UAE.
