13 Sep 2017 Consumer queen at SAAFoST Congress 2017
SA’s best-known consumer issues journalist, Wendy Knowler, and SAAFoST have developed a positive working relationship over the past few years. Knowler was at Congress 2017, both as a presenter and session chair, and on the last afternoon presented her take on the event on her regular Wednesday afternoon slot on Cape Talk.
It’s heartening that SAAFoST has been proactive in engaging a leading journalist who is at the coal face of consumer concerns; to take a step out of corporate and academic ivory towers to share information with her, and in a mutually beneficial way.
With so much disinformation in the public domain on matters of food science, food production and nutrition, she has expressed her appreciation of being able to get her facts and science right, and in a quick and efficient way to meet her deadline constraints, through her now-established contacts at SAAFoST and beyond.
You can listen to Knowler’s chat on SAAFoST Congress 2017 on the Cape Talk podcast here. She discusses food expiry dates & ‘use by’ dates, as well as food fraud, food waste and other topics raised during some of the talks she attended.
She was, too, a very engaging and amusing presenter in her talk on how food scientists and the food industry can up their game in communicating with mainstream media, and improve their losing position in the perception wars.
