The ‘bobble’ reusable water bottle comes to SA

ADDIS has announced the launch of ‘bobble’ to the South African market. bobble, incorporating an ingenious filter to remove chlorine and organic contaminants from municipal tap water, is a stylish, green solution to the environmental and other costs of bottled water.

Made from recycled plastic and free of BPA, phthalates and PVC, bobble is reusable and designed to be an everyday accessory rather than an impulse decision.

Its inexpensive retail price and that of its filters are intended to mitigate the cost of regular bottled water consumption, which can run into thousands of rands annually. A single bobble filter equates to at least 150 litres or 300 water bottles.

“We all love bottled water. But our bottled water habits are simply unsustainable, both from an ecological perspective and as a matter of financial common sense,” said Richard Smiedt, ex South African and founder of Move Collective, bobble’s parent company based in New York.

bobble“We set out to design a bottle that would improve the taste of tap water to the point where consumers could turn on their tap, rather than open their wallet. Our patented filtered water bottle achieves that goal.”

bobble is made in the USA, with Usabco/ADDIS acquiring rights to sell it in SA.

It was designed by renowned industrial designer Karim Rashid and features an iconic shape. Not only is the bobble aesthetically appealing, it is also ergonomically designed, allowing for a comfortable fit in the hand. bobbles are sold in six distinct colours: green, red, blue, magenta, black, and yellow.

Carbon filters are a proven, powerful chemical absorbent. As water passes over them, the negative ions of contaminants are drawn to the carbon granules, where they remain.

The filtered water has a cleaner, crisper taste and meets or exceeds NSF International Standard 42, the global standard that governs public and private drinking water.

Filters should be replaced every two months or after filtering approximately 150 liters of water.

Since bobble was introduced in the United States in February 2010 it has been an outstanding success, receiving rave reviews from customers and global retailers.

It has won numerous industry awards including a Green Good Design Award 2011, Gold Edison Award 2011, a Red Dot Award 2011, an American Graphic Design Award, a Good Design 2010 Award, a Spark! Award, iF Packaging Award, Ambiente 2011 Award, Great Idea Award 2011 (Latin American award) and three Pentawards.

bobble is available in SA at @home, Due South, Makro, Game, Sportsmans Warehouse, Outdoor Warehouse and selected Woolworths stores nationwide. bobble retails from R119.00.
