Swiss ProCert certification arrives in Southern Africa

With food safety, quality and certification top of the agenda for all food manufacturers, there will be much interest in the arrival of ProCert on our shores, the highly-regarded Swiss-based organisation that provides certification and training solutions globally through a network of strategic partners.

It’s partner of choice in South Africa is Western Cape-based Progress Excellence, with whom it has been collaborating for some time in the development and delivery of food safety training courses, not only in South Africa but also in West/Central Africa, mostly for Nestlé.

“Due to an expanding need for such services and the ever-increasing concerns over food safety by both consumers and manufacturers, a decision was taken to strengthen our presence by establishing a local partner company, ProCert Southern Africa,” comments Martyn Stephenson, marketing director of ProCert.

“By building on the combined strengths and experience of both organisations, ProCert Southern Africa is now able to offer clients – big multi-nationals and small, privately-owned companies alike – an expanded range of food safety training workshops plus Food Safety Management System (FSMS) certification services.

“With five locally-based auditor/trainers, we are able to offer services covering ISO/FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BRC , IFS, OHSAS 18001, and NQMS (Nestlé), among others.”

All ProCert auditors are strictly controlled and trained from Switzerland. Explains ProCert Southern Africa’s Debbie Brandt: “The control and calibration of highly qualified and competent auditors is one of ProCert’’s key strengths.

This ensures that the certification process is both effective and ‘believable’. Furthermore, the verification process is completed in Switzerland – in other words, each audit report is reviewed and the certification decision made by ProCert Switzerland.

“One obvious benefit of ProCert’s global partnerships is that a base of skilled local auditors is selected and approved not only on technical criteria, but also on their ability to speak the local language. So, for instance, you can have your BRC audit conducted in Afrikaans!”

ProCert is SAS (Swiss Accreditation System) accredited for management systems, products and services.
