Sweet-Temptations Award

Sweet Temptations wins Africa SMME award

Sweet Temptations Toffees, well known as the creators of flavoured handmade soft toffees in stylish striped wrappings, has been crowned winner of the Best New Business in Africa category of the 6th Africa SMME Awards. Businesses from all over Africa and Mauritius took part in this competition hosted by the Africagrowth Institute.

The concept of Sweet Temptations Toffees was born on a typically wintry day when the rain kept Anita and her kids indoors with no store bought sweets at hand.

Three years down the line Sweet Temptations Toffees has established strong brand recognition and loyalty, launched SA’s first original toffee spread, and last year won the coveted DSTV Food Network / Eat-In Award for the Best Small Confectionary Producer.

According to Anita Labuschagne, founder and owner of the company that’s based in Somerset West, the recipe for their success is their commitment to producing only top quality products with a generous helping of gourmet innovation. “That, and hard word, a generous spirit and a go-get attitude have given us tremendous growth in just three years. This award is a sure sign that we’re on the right track and we’re extremely excited about the future of Sweet Temptations.”

It is estimated that the sector, excluding government, provides more than 90% of the workforce of the continent and contributes significantly to the GDP of its economy. Anita employs fifteen people after having moved to a small factory.
