Presenter: Lisa-Claire Ronquest-Ross, R&D executive at Mane Flavours – Sub-saharan Africa

Lisa is a passionate food scientist with extensive local and global experience working in a variety of multinationals from Unilever, Pioneer foods, Mars and Woolworths and across the food FMCG environment (ingredients, flavours, manufacturing and retail). She has a particular interest in ensuring the application of science and technology is meaningful for both people and planet.

Lisa returned to South Africa a few years ago after working for Mars in Europe and is currently the R&D Executive for Mane Flavours – sub-saharan Africa. Lisa is completing her PhD studies through the University of Stellenbosch Food Science faculty, exploring the impact of major shifts in food consumption patterns since 1994 on the South African food and beverage industry.

Topic: The Plant-Based Movement – opportunities and challenges for South Africa

Abstract: The talk will cover the global context of the plant-based movement from a market and consumer perspective. Local insights from market and consumer research will be shared, as well as the product opportunities and challenges of developing plant-based products with a particular focus on meat alternatives.

Marisa Munroe

Presenter: Marisa Munroe, Head of Product: Fresh at Woolworths

Marisa is a passionate foodie who has been with Woolworths for just over 20 years. Her interest in understanding people and their behaviour is at the core of her philosophy to ‘fall in love with consumer’s problems’ and to commit herself to finding innovative ways to solve these.

She is as skilled at developing innovative processes through design thinking as she is passionate about developing people. She believes in the value of diversity in optimising team effectiveness. She is a curious mind who sees learning as a lifelong journey and the world of culinary arts a never-ending text book.
