Gold Pack Awards 2013!

South Africa’s packaging Oscars were announced last night at a gala function in Jo’burg – and the ultimate winner is the world’s first multi-functional two-piece injection moulded closure for spice bottles! Undoubtedly, the Gold Pack Awards programme – established by the Institute of Packaging South Africa (IPSA) 40 years ago – is firmly entrenched as the premier event for South Africa’s packaging fraternity.

This year, from a multitude of entries, the judges first identified the finalists and then picked worthy recipients of Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in the various categories.

“Many recipients of awards in this competition are submitting their entries to the WPO’s WorldStar programme. South African packs have garnered numerous WorldStars ever since IPSA became a member of the WPO in 1993 – confirming the country’s world-class status. And that’s what the Gold Pack Awards are all about – promoting and encouraging world-class excellence in packaging design and technology,” commented long-time Gold Pack judge, Gill Loubser, publisher/editor of PACKAGiNG & Print Media magazine.

“They’re also about fostering co-operation across the packaging supply chain and we’re delighted to see an increasing number of entries coming jointly from brand owners and converters.”

AWARD: IPSA Gold Pack Trophy: Robertson’s Spice Cap

Judges’ comment: All components of this pack work together to add value throughout the supply chain, meeting consumer needs and enhancing the Robertson’s Spice brand.

This is the world’s first injection-moulded orientated multi-functional closure on a glass bottle. This two-piece marvel not only offers consumer convenience, it protects contents from cross contamination and provides extended shelf life. The stylish and modern bottle integrates elegantly with the cap.

The ergonomically-designed bottle is 10% lighter than its predecessor and the re-engineering of the small glass jar has been excellently executed.
