SERANO DRY ROASTED NUTS
Our local Spar has a stand-alone display featuring a spectacular range of snack foods. Serano, a brand developed and owned by E Neophytou Trading, a Cyprus-based family business established in 1974, specialises in the import, export, processing and trade of dried fruits and nuts and is a Cypriot market leader. It enjoys widespread distribution, supplying companies selling nuts under the Serano brand, under private label and in bulk to chain stores, kiosks, cafés, hotels, fruit markets, bakeries, cinemas, ships, coffee shops, and airlines.
The laminated film is gravure printed in Greece and formed into stand-up pouches on Serano’s fully- automated horizontal form-fill-seal machine, while modified atmosphere packaging ensures freshness.
PONGRÁCZ THEATRE GIFT PACK
Between 1973 and 1993, the chief viticultural adviser at Distillers Corporation, Desiderius Pongrácz, challenged the restrictive policies of wine making and lobbied for the importation of new plant material, the best varietals from the best vines, to propagate better vineyards. Although widely used in Europe, the practice of careful selection was considered controversial in South Africa, with the industry concerned about importing new material for fear of viruses.
Inspired by Desiderius Pongrácz, a nobleman and refugee from the Hungarian uprising who revolutionised wine making in the Cape, Pongrácz Méthode Cap Classique has become one of our most popular fermented sparkling wines.
The Pongrácz Theatre Gift Pack, designed by Cape-based Drexler Kyzer Studios, is a visual feast! The magnificent carton is manufactured by MW Packaging in Paris, the gold foiled neck capsule is from Sparflex in France, the ornate neck label is printed by VolherbstDruck in Germany and Consol Glass specially developed the Pongrácz bottle. It’s a stellar performance!
DROSTDY-HOF EXTRA LIGHT’S SEE-THROUGH LABEL
Getting noticed on cluttered shelves remains a challenge, especially for wine. Using the creative talents of Drexler Kyzer Studios in Cape Town and Collotype Labels’ print wizardry with self-adhesive technology, this no-label look enables the manor house graphic on the Drostdy-Hof Extra Light bottle to be recessed to the rear of the back label where it is visible through the BN1348 350g light-weight bottle, manufactured by Consol Glass.
The branding appears to float in front of a scenic backdrop, with the contrasting green banner across the base of the label. The Savin screw-cap, printed by MCG Closures in Cape Town, enhances the finished look of extra lightness. Using a Nilpeter FB3300S and inks from Sun Chemicals, Collotype Labels prints the front labels on RaflaClear from UPM Raflatac and the back labels on MirrorKote from Antalis.

Apart from their branded lines, Heartland also supplies well-known supermarkets with their house brands.
KZN-based Everest Flexibles gravure prints the attractive laminated metallised polyester Corn Flakes and Bran Flakes bags on a Rotomec using inks from Hi-Tech Inks. The contents are imported from the UK.
IDEAL VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT – VOBRO’S CHERRY ROSES
The first two weeks of February ignite couples into showing their appreciation for one another through the exchange of gifts. Legend has it that Valentine was a Roman priest during the third century. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realising the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform secret marriages for young lovers. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered his death!
Founded in 1986, Polish confectionery group Vobro manufactures various chocolate products and premium quality biscuits. As many as eight million boxes of chocolate are exported to twenty countries on four continents and estimated to represent a quarter of the company’s turnover. In the presence of predatorily priced items, the two elegantly packed Vobro Cherry Roses Love Edition Cherries in Liqueur were my gift choice, proving that chocolates, roses and a card still rule on Valentine’s Day!
HOUSE OF COFFEES CONFESSIONS RANGE
House of Coffees was registered in May 1965 as a small shop in the heart of Johannesburg. Roasting took place on the premises, turning out 10kg of coffee at a time! The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans enticed passersby to stop and stare at the alien coffee roasting machine. Months passed before wary office workers visited the shop and discovered the fascinating world of coffee – an exotic drink few knew existed. Two years later, production of various blends commenced at a factory in Fordsburg, some of which are still available today.
Nampak Flexible gravure prints the pouches for the Confessions range for the brand’s owner, Entyce, using JansenInternational’s impactful designs that have shelf shout against myriad local and imported coffees (including Starbucks). For added consumer convenience tin ties are applied inline while packs are formed to facilitate resealing and ensure freshness.
