ELOPAK AND SPAR’S NEW RICE RANGE
SPAR Rice packaging has gone from average (in polybags) to awesome! Following the successful and innovative introduction of Sugar, Ice Tea, Oats and Muesli in Elopak, a range of convenient SPAR Rice Elopak cartons now grace the shelves of SPAR stores. SPAR’s penchant for innovation and original packaging solutions has resulted in many successful products being launched in Elopak’s eye-catching, easy-to-open, easy-to-store, resealable cartons. Using Paton Tupper’s designs for the three new variants: Basmati Brown, Basmati White and Jasmin, Nampak Liquid printed the cartons on its new CPS press; the closures are supplied by Elopak Europe; and repro work is by Polymer Art.
TROPIKA’S COOL COLOURS HIT THE SHELVES
Tropika’s Cool Colours will certainly brighten supermarket fridges and attract consumer attention. The PET bottles, manufactured by Nampak Liquid using a new mould, are tinted for variant identification and iconic loyalty. To top it all there’s an original one-piece sports closure, featuring a moulded mouthpiece which eliminates the unpleasant practice of discarding the dust covers found on traditional push-pull sports closures. Labels are printed by Universal Labels & Packaging in Midrand on 47μm metallised OPP, using Paragon inks. Graphics are from Lister Alexanders newly-established Osiris Packaging Consulting & Design.
TIGER TIGER’S HEXAGONAL-SHAPED FOLDING CARTONS
I recently came across these hexagonal-shaped packaging gems with intricate buckle-lock devices, each with two retort pouches, at Pick n Pay Cresta, Johannesburg. If youve ever tried to recreate your favourite Thai, Indian or Chinese dish at home, youll know it’s not easy. With over 30 years experience in servicing the ethnic market, JK Foods (a division of Hyperama) developed the Tiger Tiger brand. Through its range of Thai, Indian and Chinese foods, the company is committed to promoting the fragrant and luxurious flavours of Asia in ready-to-use packs. Diverse recipes and a vast selection of easy-to-heat products bring exciting dishes to our dining tables in one powerful leap. Intended to be warmed in a microwave, each meal kit feeds two. The cartons feature a front and back cut out which shows the sauce and rice in separate retort pouches.
THREE RETAIL READY, VALUE PACKS FROM SAB
There’s no stopping SAB! The roll-out of packaging options continues to be introduced into selected outlets. With its ear close to the whispers of consumers, SAB’s development team have made subtle changes to the value packs of three major brands (12 x 340ml bottles), Hansa, Castle and Carling.
Apart from the retail-ready, easy tear-off perforations, handle slots have been included to facilitate easy handling from display to checkout and from car boot to kitchen table/party area. The good work done historically by Mondipak Innovation Centre (Epping, CapeTown) and the SAB Development team with the Bula Boot and cooler boxes has given rise to reports that party goers are removing the tops of the value packs and throwing ice into them to promote cooling, in spite of the fact that these cartons don’t have waterproof liners. Nampak Corrugated Wadeville, using its Masterflex, prints the Carling and Hansa cartons on Sappi Super print in six colours and UV varnish ex Eagle Inks; repro supplied by Corro-Flex. The Castle brand was printed in six colours by Mondipak Pinetown on a Masterflex using Valkraft and a Classiq Coatings UV varnish. The ink supplier was Eagle Inks, with repro by Polyflex. All structural design was done by Mondipak Innovation Centre.
