08 Aug 11 Sunday Times Top Brands Awards 2011, all the Top brands in South Africa
SA’s most iconic brands were recently announced at the 13th annual 2011 Sunday Times Top Brands Awards, held at Helderfontein Estate in Johannesburg – and winning the Overall Favourite Brand Grand Prix: Koo, in the Tiger Brands stable, and proving that you just can’t beat convenience.
Overtaking youth-targeted brands Coca-Cola, first runner up, and KFC, second runner up; the household, canned foods brand jumped from second overall in 2010 to take top honours and confirming their status as a well-loved and respected household brand across the country.
Interesting to note, is that this year’s top three Overall Favourite Brand Grand Prix contenders have been in the top three for two consecutive years, which in part bears testament to their marketing and advertising prowess.
Other favourites in the Consumer categories saw Cadbury, Absa, Coca-Cola, MTN, Shoprite and KFC amongst others given the nod by its consumer-based-buying-force.
Environmentally conscious Pick n Pay took first place as the brand that has done the most to promote ‘green’ awareness, closely followed by Woolworths and Nedbank: both ‘green’ stalwarts.
The Top Brands survey, undertaken by Avusa Media’s research partner, TNS Research Surveys, assessed the strength of brands in South Africa using various criteria, including familiarity, brand rating and experience, and public perception.
