New look for Cremora
Ever since the now famous advertisement . . . It’s not inside, it’s on top, we’ve come to expect the unusual from Nestlé’s Cremora brand. The latest is a packaging revamp that’s propelled the product to another level when it comes to shelf-shout.
Nestlé South Africa’s top coffee creamer, Cremora, has been relaunched in an innovative pack produced by Cinqplast-Plastop. The jars now sport eye-catching shrink-sleeves and are fitted with tamper-evident caps and user-friendly pouring spouts.
This latest packaging design from Astrapak’s Cinqplast-Plastop operation brings huge advantages for both Nestlé and consumers.
The tamper-evidence spout not only offers consumer protection, it also eliminates the need for an internal hermetic seal, thus reducing costs and making the product easier to open and use. In addition, the removal of the internal hermetic seal means the pack can breathe and so adjust to South Africa’s varying altitudes without paneling.
The spout also permits easy product delivery, eliminates the need for a spoon, and is recloseable. Finally, the tamper-evident neck-band provides extra pilfer-proof security.
After submitting initial designs to Nestlé in 2007, Cinqplast-Plastop spent some two years developing the pack, and overcoming the technical challenges involved in perfecting the tamper-evident spout.
To perform optimally, the injection moulded tamper-evident mechanisms had to be adjusted in the mould to the tiniest of tolerances. The minuscule lugs on both the neck-band and the spout have to be robust enough to withstand the rigors of the delivery chain yet be easy to break when the consumer opens the pack.
The polypropylene closure design is the first of its kind. Although designed in South Africa, the two cap moulds (250 and 500g sizes) were produced at Weener Plastics, Germany, acknowledged as one of the world’s leading tooling manufacturers. The mould was then tested and commissioned at Cinqplast-Plastop where the closure, spout and the dual tamper-evidence features are produced in one cycle.
The blow-moulded HDPE jar, produced in two sizes, and shrink sleeves are applied at Cinqplast-Plastop. The high quality sleeve is printed in eight colours and applied as required by Nestlé. The jar has an easy grip waistline and the sleeve hugs the contours exceptionally well, providing clean lines and good visual shelf presence.
Launched in November 2009, this innovation will certainly put Cremora streets ahead of its competitors in terms of product delivery and security. This will no doubt pave the way for other luxury products to follow suit.
