22 Sep 2011 Another “Olde Tyme” flavour from Frankie’s Olde Soft Drink Company
In keeping with its quest to deliver innovative olde style beverage flavours into the South African market, Frankie’s Olde Style Soft Drink Company has launched Dandelion and Burdock, yet another variant to add to its range.
Attractively packaged in Frankie’s unique trademark old-fashioned style, the new variant complements the other six-flavours: Traditional Ginger Beer, Fiery Ginger Beer, Olde Style Root Beer, Cinnamon Cola, Original Cream Soda and Cloudy Lemonade.
Dandelion and burdock is a traditional British soft drink, drunk in the British Isles and Colonies since about 1265. Traditionally it is made from fermented dandelion and burdock roots and is naturally fizzy. The taste of Frankie’s product remains faithful to the original drink and the launch is set to take advantage of the 2011-2012 summer season.
The Frankie’s range of products is now listed in Pick n Pay, Checkers, Dischem, Fruit and Veg City as well as Food Lovers Market and is also widely available nationally through the SPAR chain and smaller retail outlets.
Based at Newstead Farm near Curry’s Post in the KZN Midlands, Frankie’s Olde Soft Drink Company is the brainchild of Mike and Paula Schmidt, who initially started producing homemade Ginger Beer to complement their new bed and breakfast business.
Using an old family recipe, Frankie’s Homemade Ginger Beer was launched commercially in July 2006 and was an immediate hit with Midlands Meander visitors and locals alike. “Made using real ginger root, we created a product that smacked of good old-fashioned taste and set the stage for a new soft drinks business that has tapped into consumers desire for authentic and novel refreshment,” comments Mike.
Weekly production has quickly grown from 100 litres a week to the current production of more than two million bottles per year in 2011. Products initially intended for sale exclusively on the KZN Midlands Meander are now widely available throughout South Africa.
