Anuga 2011
Ferreting out innovation at Anuga 2011

Back home from five busy days at Anuga, and time to collate and report on things novel, new, different that I uncovered in the long, long walk around KölnMesse's acres. Some interesting beverages, snacks, ready to eat foods, dairy, packaging and processing methods...

The best new product at Anuga 2011 - from South Africa!
Wednesday, 19 October 2011

So:ShiAmid the thousands, if not millions, of SKUs that were on show at Anuga 2011, how ironic that a South African product should rank as my "Best New Product of Anuga 2011". Taking as an objective a viewpoint as I could, and selecting it from among all the novel, new and different that I happened upon during my five days of trawling the show (you simply can never see all of Anuga), my award goes to...

South Africa at Anuga 2011

SA Pavillion at Anuga 2011South Africa again had a vibrant presence at Anuga - and the DTI can take a bow for a pavillion that was as bright and colourful as the national flag. While it occupied but a fraction of the vast expo, its size belied some fabulous innovation and difference on the 37 individual stands, and I would go so far as to vouch that I even found my "Innovative Product of Anuga 2011" there. As a nation, we can take pride in many of our food industrialists and innovators. Some snapshots...

Drinking in Anuga 2011
Monday, 10 October 2011

Anuga flagsDay Two of this amazing expo. The official visitor figures are put at 150 000 people over five days, but such is the density of bipods on KolnMesse's acres, they must surely all be here today.

Sunday's allocated task is to tackle Hall 8: Drinks. Come and drink in Anuga!

Anuga 2011 Blog - Day One at the World's Greatest Food Fair
Saturday, 08 October 2011

Anuga entranceGrey skies and drizzle greeted the hordes who made their way into the massive KolnMesse for the start of Anuga 2011 - appropriately, perhaps, ending the unusual Indian summer enjoyed by much of Europe and heralding five days of hard work and business for some 6 500 exhibitors and 150 000 visitors. It has been six years since I was last here, and one forgets the sheer size and scope of this expo - that it all happens with such apparent efficiency is testimony to awesome German organisation and technology.

So, come and share with me some of things that catch my eye as I traipse, or attempt to cover, as much as possible of its 300 000m2! That equates to 43 rugby fields, for want of a timeous comparison.
