JUNGLE OATS' CINNAMON FLAVOURED LIMITED EDITION

Jungle Oats CinnamonThe first Tiger mill was built at Maraisburg in the Cape but when the Jungle Oats brand outgrew these premises in 1930, the current site at Maitland was opened. To this day, the unique milling process gives Jungle Oats its nutty taste.

It’'s winter here in South Africa and the popularity of cooked oats for breakfast cannot be ignored! A limited edition Cinnamon Flavoured variant has been launched to generate further interest in the Jungle brand, a long-standing and much envied market leader. Using Grid'’s eye-catching design work, the well-entrenched Jungle Green and Red has been replaced with a warm metallic brown to give maximum shelf differentiation while retaining the other elements in their current structure. Nampak Cartons & Labels Cape prints the cartons on 450g/m2 Greyback board supplied by Hansol using four process colours and two spot metallic inks ex Siegwerk, while the inner bags are ex Plasticwrap.

CASTLE'’S SPECIAL COLLECTORS' EDITION BOTTLECANS

Castle's BottlecansPackaging innovation has always been an important part of SAB'’s marketing mix. Now we have a local first in the beer market developed and manufactured through close collaboration between SAB and various divisions of Nampak!

The Castle Limited Edition aluminium bottle manufactured by DivFood Mobeni is similarly shaped to our traditional 340ml Castle Lager glass bottle, and yet has more eye appeal thanks to its all-over decoration, brushed aluminium finish and shorter neck. The first of a roll-out of numerous Collectors Edition series, the custom-designed Castle triple promotional pack is designed to hold three aluminum bottles, two with a Bafana Bafana ‘kicker’ design while the other is the generic Castle design. The ‘three-windows’ carton is litho printed by Nampak Cartons & Labels Cleveland on imported Carrierkote wet strength board ex Mead Westvaco using inks and varnishes supplied by Coates.

With the advantage of quicker cooling and longer chill retention, the innovative ‘hybrid’ aluminium bottle ex Nampak DivFood was jointly designed by Berge Farrell and SAB with technical support from DivFood. There'’s a long list of credits for the development – the infectious enthusiasm of the SAB team, DivFood, Nampak Cartons & Labels, Nampak Corrugated, Valspar for the inks, Sistiaga for the overvarnish, both PPG and Sistiaga for the internal lacquer, the tooling supplier who supported the highly complex can construction and Coleus for the printed crowns that top it all!

CASTLE LAGER’'S BULA BOOT COOLER BOX PROMOTION

Castle's Bula BootAs I walked around our local bottle store at lunchtime on June 11, I was constantly reminded that it was soon to be one of South Africa’'s finest moments:– kick-off of the opening match of the 2010 World Cup between Bafana Bafana and Mexico. There was a show-biz feel in the air, much like the opening night vibe at an international musical.

Basking in the glory of the event, were gondola end displays of Castle Lager’'s Bula Boot (open boot) Cooler Box promotion. After tweaking by SAB and CorroFlex (Nampak’s repro and platemaking arm), Nampak Corrugated Wadeville printed Brand Activation’s (Ogilvy) basic design on its Bobst Masterflex using inks from Coates. There’s a double laminate leak-proof liner ex UVP’s (United Varnish & Print) Claymore Paper & Packaging to contain the ice cubes necessary for cooling to take place.

The magic doesn'’t stop there: the decorated crowns on each of the 24 bottles in the Cooler Box are ex Coleus while CTP Packaging’s SA Litho operation prints the labels (including the player series back labels) for the bottles supplied by Consol Glass and Nampak Wiegand Glass.

SALLY WILLIAMS' ‘MEMORIES OF SOUTH AFRICA’ COLLECTION

Sally Williams' Memories of South AfricaSally Williams has launched ‘Memories of South Africa’ Nougat Collection:– aimed at soccer-mad visitors wanting to take home something special after the World Cup. There are three classy cartons from which to choose – Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, and Macadamia & Almond - one for the wife, one for granny, and another for the daughter left behind to watch on telly!

Masterpackprinted the carton using Craig Smith of Ideaology’'s intricate design work on Masterkote with Hostmann Steinberg inks. It’'s a great gift with a lot of nougat to remember us by!

SAFARI’'S NEW JUST FRUIT RANGE

Safari's Just Fruit RangeThe magic never stops! Safari continues to introduce line extensions and new ranges to tempt ‘snackers’, young and old, looking for the healthy goodness of fruit without added sugar. Mothers who want their kids to develop sensible eating habits can choose from Just Fruit Bars, Just Fruit Rolls, Just Fruit Mixed Flakes and trusted favourite, Just Fruit Zingers.

One of the lesser known facts about Safari variants is that Fruit bars and Zingers have a shelf life of seven months, while Fruit Rolls and Mixed Flakes last up to a year! Cape Town-based design agency M&A was responsible for the eye-catching design of the Safari Just Fruit range; cartons printed by Golden Era; flexible packs for the Just Fruit 65g are ex ACF Cape; and Nampak Flexible Cape prints the 30g pouches for the Mixed Fruit Flakes and 32g Just Fruit bars.
