A great foodie story for the tabloids... British cooking celebrity, Nigella Lawson, on the latest cover of the free UK magazine Stylist, has become a human toffee apple, professing her love of salted caramel by pouring the sugary sauce over her head and heavily made-up face. She denies that this haunting image is by any means erotic in nature.

In an interview with the London Times, Nigella maintains that this image "is simply rapturous joy in caramel".

Nigella insists that anyone who thinks this shot — her lips are slightly parted, her eyes shaded dark, her painted nails grasp her temples in ecstasy, and masses of sugary goo dribbles down her face — is in any way erotic, has a problem. She denies it’s remotely sexual.

Renowned for her flirtatious manner of presenting, Lawson has been called the ‘queen of food porn’, yet with faux outrage she claims: ‘I’ve never done double entendre in my life, I’m not that kind of person.’

She has a point — ‘double entendre’ suggests a kind of subtlety. The truth is that Nigella is about full-frontal hedonism. As for not flirting, we will draw a (Salome-type) veil over the fact that one of the cocktails in the magazine is called a Flirtini, or that she suggests ‘being barefoot’ is the best way for a hostess to relax.....
