Nestlé brings Krazy Monkey ice cream to SA
Thursday, 20 October 2011

Krazy MonkeyNestlé has introduced Krazy Monkey, claimed as the first ice cream that can be peeled, in South Africa. This banana-shaped treat, which is the newest addition to the Nestlé Impulse range, is covered in an edible grape-flavoured jelly, which consumers can peel away to enjoy the soft vanilla ice-cream filling inside.

The new Krazy Monkey ice-cream is an interactive treat offering exciting play-value for kids. It contains no artificial colourants and can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.

This innovative, fun and unusual ice cream stick is being rolled out across the globe this year, after its successful launch in Thailand as Eskimo Monkey.

Eaten like a banana, consumers start the playful experience by taking a bite from the top of the peelable jelly shell, which is then roll down like a banana skin to reveal an ice cream core.

First launched in Thailand in May 2010 under the popular Eskimo brand, it quickly became a high-in-demand success among children, Says Nestlé.

As well as being fun, new and exciting, it also meets the Nestlé Nutritional Foundation requirements, containing no artificial colourings, being low in fat and sugar. The ice cream snack supports Nestlé’s Nutrition, Health and Wellness strategic drive for its products.

Hervé Cathelin, Global Head of Nestlé Ice Cream, explains the relevance of the ice cream snack: “When you work in ice cream you need to think like a kid. A kid wants to play, explore but most of all have fun. In Nestlé ice cream it is important to achieve our objective of developing products that not only appeal to kids, but also meet the Nestlé nutritional foundation. The peelable ice cream achieves this in a fun and playful way.”

First extended to Malaysia in January 2011 under the Matkool brand, the ice cream snack is available in the Philippines as Krazy Banana under the Kimy brand. Then in March, the ice cream concept went on sale in Europe under the Pirulo brand. Te roll-out has continued in several countries, now South Africa, for an estimated RSP of R6,00.

Jelly StickNestlé’s Jelly Stik ice-cream is more fun and less mess

In another new launch in time for summer, Nestlé has combined smooth vanilla ice-cream with the yummy taste of strawberry jelly in its new Jelly Stik frozen dessert. Consumers can enjoy the experience of eating through the soft vanilla outer layer to reveal the wobbly strawberry jelly inside. This tasty jelly is also slow to melt, making it more fun and less mess.

This 70ml ice-cream treat contains no artificial colours and has a real-jelly consistency.

Retailing for less than R5,00 this is positioned as a value-for-money offering.
