In the past month‚ another 167 people have contracted deadly listeriosis‚ bringing the total number of confirmed cases in South Africa to 717. Food scientists are now calling it the worst documented listeriosis outbreak in global history.
The listeriosis outbreak in South Africa is ongoing. As of December 29, 2017, a total of 704 laboratory-confirmed listeriosis cases from all provinces across the country were reported to NICD since January 1, 2017, with 61 deaths reported so far.
